Yo tengo a question.
Why does style matter?
They’re just clothes…
Who really cares?
The answer: EVERYONE!
Even those who think they don’t care about style are deeply affected by it.
Let me show you how…
- Work uniforms
- School dress code
- Sports uniforms
These are just tres ways that fashion and style have touched us all.
It matters to companies…they want you to representar them well.
It matters to schools…they want you to dress in such a way that it encourages learning.
It matters to teams…they want all to know who you play for.
So, yo quiero deviate from the the typical post with this one?
Recently, I had the privilege to speak to a group of young men (middle – high school age boys) about looking your best. It was titled The Passport to Style: Your Ticket to Confidence.
I was able to conectar with these young men so that they would understand the benefits of looking great. It was my goal to give them reasons beyond what they’ve probably heard a kazillion times already.
Most of them looked at me like I was crazy. They didn’t have cars so they didn’t have a license. The young gents weren’t business owners so they didn’t have business cards.
My next question was, “How am I going to know who you are?”
I told them that they’d already presented me their ID based on their appearance. Naturally the dialogue progressed into the importance of looking well put together because people are making assumptions and judgements about you based on what they see.
So one by one we start to show the guys how it’s done. We focused on the single Windsor knot. It’s classicism can’t be overstated. Especíal attention was paid to the dimple. After all, the dimple is the cherry on top!
The beauty of this event was the support by other men. Rallying behind the boys to be an example was a high point during the session. Many of the young lads don’t have this kind of positive one-on-one interaction with an adult male, so it’s needed.
Pero this chico wasn’t the only winner if the day. All the guys walked out of the session with a new tie and dress shirt!
It is my sincere desire that the young men left with a new perspective and appreciation for how they present themselves.
