A Gentleman and his Hat

Dapper, Fashion, Gentlemen, Men's Fashion, Men's Style, Menswear, Style Tips

Señores,

Sombreros are an importante part of a gentleman’s wardrobe. Hats signify class, style, flare, as well an aid in keeping a gent’s head warm and the sun out of his ojos. The effect of a perfectly placed hat is igual (equal), oftentimes, to the effect of zapatos.

Now there are many types of hats. RealMenRealStyle has provided a strong list of the more popular estilos of hats!

 The tipo of hat that you wear depends on a few things.

  1. Your aesthetic and preference: If you’re a period style maven, you might stick with styles that were traditionally found in the era that you’re drawn to.
  2. The size and shape of your head and face:  Diferente hats look better on different people. Jaw lines, facial hair and hair style are all factors to consider when choosing a hat.
  3. The type of outfit: Tradicionalmente, certain hats go with with certain outfits. In more trendier looks, the lines are a bit more blurred and the reglas (rules) are more relaxed. However, you can never go wrong with the classic looks.

We can examinar these conventions at a later date. For the purposes of this post, yo quiero focus on  a few gentlemanly rules for hats. Again, these rules are of a traditional nature pero I believe, as a menswear enthusiast, that it is imperative that we compredemos, fully, the cultured way of wearing headgear.

  1. A gentleman is expected to remove his hat as he enters a building.

  2. A gentleman removes his hat when inside except when in “pass through” places such as lobbies, hallways, & elevators in buildings that are open to the public.

  3. Gentlemen are to remove their hats during the singing and/or playing of the National Anthem.

  4. Gentlemen are to remove their hat in an elevator and hold it in their hand when a lady enters the lift.

  5. A gentleman should tip or remove his hat when approaching a lady.

  6. A gentleman is to remove his hat before sitting at the dinner table. (It should already be removed when he walks in the restaurant.)

Entoñces (so), as we sojourn through estilo, cultura, and vida, it’s important that we understand and respect the traditional values that have laid a foundation for us. As it relates to a gentleman and his hat, it’s no different.

Make sure that you visit the lads at Southern Gents to check out and purchase their hats and other dapper accessories!

Keep it gentlemanly,

Señores,
There are epic momentos in our vidas that will always be etched in our memories. There are those time cuando relationships can be “cashed it” for great opportunidades! Such a time just recently occurred for me and in the iconic words of Drake, “I feel blessed”!

I was asked to be a parte of Grungy Gentleman’s VARSITY PROJECT! This editorial project put together some of the menswear industry’s most acclaimed bloggers and estilo aficionados. Curated by GG’s Founder/CEO /Designer Jace Lipstein and shot by the incomparable Eddie Pearson and gifted Moises De Pena – the bloggers were set in the heart of Soho’s sexy streets donning the line’s signature Varsity Pants.

@elisoul01

@barrettpall

Honestamente, the Varsity Pants are so New York! Durable yet svvelt, chic yet comfortable, the Varsity Pant is anything but a standard pair of joggers. They sit below the waist with a slim-straight cut that bail into a striped ankle cuff.

@mensstylepro

Pair them with sneakers, oxfords, or boots…it matters not because of the versatility!

Next up is the All Season Flannel!

@mensstylepro

@denny623

It doesn’t matter if your rolling up your sleeves for a long day at work, hanging around, or just chilling. You can remain fashionable doing them all while sporting the All Season Flannel. Notice the suede elbow pads that add a classico gentlemanly element to a historically rugged shirt.

Finalamente, it’s important to stay 2 G in the Grungy Gentleman x Mitchell & Ness collaboration Snapback.

@denny623

There’s no better way to stay warm or keep it cool!

Ahora  check out how the rest of the lads styled the the Varsity Pants and the All Season Flannel!

¡Señores!

I have been too fond of all black. I know…I know…it’s sleek, sexy, and sophisticated. However to me, it was aburrido (boring)…not to mention yo vivio en Houston. Black in hot, humid, Houston just isn’t a good look.

Now there’s never a shortage of black during the winter season but there was always a shortage of it in my vestidor (closet). Pero tiempo does bring change and  blackt has overtaken me. Chelsea boots, sweaters, denim, joggers, extended tee, and leather, leather, leather!

Ahora I’m on the black train and I have a window seat. But I will nunca abandon color! Check my simple, yet noticeable look from a marvelous day of shopping during New York Fashion Week!

I broke up the monochromatic black with red, gray, and silver accents just to add texture! Oh and check the texture of the shirt too!!!!

Springtime is around the corner and that facto tickles the sartorialist in me! Me encanta sprucing up my ensembles with colores brillante! Springtime is when natures most vibrant palette is showcased. The petals, the warm sunrises, la fruta…all of it shouts life. As such I wanted to give a spring preview.

Technically, we’re still in winter. In fact we’re in the middle of winter for some parts of the country. But here is a way to insert irreverently insert some color into your winter wardrobe. When you do it, make it…

Señores!

I enjoy a suit just like the next hombre! Suits have long been a símbolo garnering repeat, having power, and being distinguished. This is no secreto. I don’t know about you pero when I wear a suit I power up like Popeyes did when he ate his spinach!

2015/01/img_9438.gif
</em http://www.pixgood.com

Suits generally have a seriousness to them. Being distinguished usualmente has is akin to being stoic and stuff. I disagree totalmente. I encounter this aburrido (boring) sentiment at my 9-5. So I wanted to have a little fun in two of my favorite business suits.

Señores!

Today was una dia buena! My niece had her holiday program for escuela and I was sitting in the audience with my chest swollen with pride. Just as every fashioneur does I tend to toil and mill through my closet and drawers for what to wear for un evento especial!

You know the drill…pulling pantalones from the closet and laying shirt after shirt…after shirt on them to see what excites you. Next you try to solve the equation of socks + shoes + belt + wristwear =??????

After which you put it on, look in the mirror and either give the nod of approval or the bitter beer face!! It’s a dance that we all have done…some more elegantly than otros!

Today, before my niece’s programa, I stepped on that dance floor and below is the outcome. I was very pleased. Check it out.

3M: Mission Male Model

GQ, Men's Fashion, Men's Style, Menswear, Uncategorized

Señores,
I have been on a quest for fashion greatness for sometime now and I have reached a milestone. Since high school I’ve had a growing love for fashion. Admittedly, I made it dormant porque being the star of the team, and being really into the cut de los jeans or color blocking, didn’t necessarily mesh well at that time.

However, as I grew in maturity, my passions grew stronger. The summer before universidad I started modeling. At that point is when I was overwhelmingly bitten by the fashion bug. However life happened. Mi amor for fashion and style couldn’t be fully pursued because I was blessed with a college scholarship.

Durante universidad I grew in my personal style and was noted for being a stylish estudiante on campus. I started customizing jeans with bleach and paint and was known to be very edgy and tendy. I even revisited modeling on a real low level. I would attend castings and they would love me except for the tattoos and pierced ears.

Fast forward to my mid twenties. I began to do editorial shoots in Houston hoping to gain some traction. That really didn’t happen. Then came 2014…Noviembre 2014!!

At 32 years old, after being in dozens of local fashion shows, participating in gobs of TFP editorial shoots, a number of rejections from agencies for things that are accepted now – I caught a break. I am now a published model and I was able to grace the runway on a grandote platform (Fashion Houston)!! This is exciting to me because it was a dream that came true. I also, as a budding designer, seasoned blogger, and growing stylist, want to experience the fashion industry form mucho diferente vantage points. Here are out captures of that glorious November that has ignited un fuego in my desire for fashion iconicism!
